ABOUT THE PREPARATORY PROGRAM
There are 3 groups in the Foreign Language Preparatory Program. These groups are as follows:

Group B program: It consists of the students who are enrolled in the compulsory preparatory class and whose field of study is not a foreign language. As of 2024-2025 academic year, English Business Administration Department is included in this program.
Group C program: It consists of the students enrolled in the optional preparatory class. The units included in the optional preparatory programme as of the 2024-2025 academic year are as follows: Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Tourism, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Dinar School of Applied Sciences, Bolvadin Faculty of Applied Sciences, State Conservatory.
Attendance is compulsory for all students. Students are required to attend 85% of the courses in the academic year. Group A and B program (compulsory preparatory class) students are exempt from preparatory education and start their education in the programmes they are enrolled in if they score 70 or above in the Foreign Language Proficiency Exam (AKU-YDYS) held in September after enrolling to the university. Group A programme students take the AKU-YDYS Category A exam and Group B programme students take the Category B exam (For detailed information, please see the proficiency exam). Students who fail the proficiency exam in September or who do not take the exam receive preparatory education for one year. In order to take the proficiency exam at the end of the year, the sum of the two semester grade point averages of both semesters divided by two must be 70 and above. Students who score above this average can take the year-end proficiency exam and if they get 70 in this exam, they are eligible to receive education in the programmes they are enrolled in. Group A and B students who have completed two semesters in the preparatory program and did not take the year-end proficiency exam or who took the year-end proficiency exam but scored below 70 may take the proficiency exam to be held at the beginning of the following academic year. If they fail this exam, they repeat the preparatory program. Of these students;
- a) Those who fulfil the attendance requirement in the first year renew their registration in the preparatory program and continue the preparatory class for two more semesters and if they are successful in the proficiency exam held at the end of the fourth semester or at the beginning of the fifth semester, they start their education in the programs they are enrolled in. If these students want to improve their foreign language knowledge with their own means, they may not continue the preparatory program by applying to the school with a petition until the last working day of the last week of the last week of the late registration date with an excuse after renewing their registration, and they apply for the proficiency exam held at the end of the fourth semester or at the beginning of the fifth semester and if they are successful in the exam, they start their education in the programs they are enrolled in.
- b) Those who do not fulfil the attendance requirement in the first year and fail the proficiency exam held at the beginning of the next academic year must renew their registration in the preparatory program for the second year and attend the courses.
Group A and B students must successfully complete the compulsory preparatory class within two years. Students who fail to successfully complete the compulsory preparatory class within two years and fail the proficiency exam at the beginning of the third year are dismissed from the program they are enrolled in. The re-placement of these students is made according to the provisions of the Regulation on Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Education Institutions and the Principles to be Followed in Foreign Language Teaching.
The following students are exempted from the compulsory preparatory class:
(1) a. Those who, for at least the last three years, have been educated in a country where the foreign language determined as the medium of instruction is spoken as the mother tongue in secondary education institutions attended by the citizens of that country and have completed their secondary education in these institutions.
b. Those who get at least 70 points out of 100 from one of the foreign language exams organised by ÖSYM or an equivalent score from international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM (For Group A program students, it is required that listening, writing and speaking skills are measured in these exams. Scores obtained from exams where these skills are not measured are accepted as the first stage score of the YDYS Category A exam, provided that they are 70 or above. These students have to take the second stage of the YDYS Category A exam).
(2) In order to be exempt from the compulsory preparatory class, the scores obtained from international foreign language exams organised by ÖSYM or accepted as equivalent must belong to the last 5 years.
(3) The exemptions of students who transfer horizontally or vertically to programmes with a compulsory preparatory class are determined by the decision of the unit executive board upon the recommendation of the department board of the program they transfer to. The exemptions of those who apply for double major or minor in these programs are determined by the decision of the unit executive board upon the recommendation of the department board of the program with compulsory preparatory class.
Information on international foreign language exams organised by ÖSYM or accepted as equivalent can be accessed from the link. In this context, YÖKDİL exam is not a valid exam for exemption from preparation.
Group C program students, i.e. optional preparatory students, do not take the proficiency exam held at the beginning of the academic year in which they enrol at the university. They are placed in the appropriate class by taking the Placement Test held in the first week of the semester. These students also have an attendance obligation. In order to take the proficiency exam at the end of the year, the average of the two semester success scores must be at least 70. Group C program students take the AKU-YDYS Category B exam (For detailed information, please see the Proficiency Exam). Students who score 70 points in this exam are given a certificate of achievement. Students with a lower average cannot take the proficiency exam at the end of the first year, but they can take the following proficiency exam until graduation. If these students do not take the qualifying exam or fail, they continue their education in the programmes they are enrolled in.
